Facebook chief executive Mark Zuckerberg has called it a “sad day for Brazil” after a court there ordered a two-day shutdown of the popular messaging app WhatsApp, owned by the social media company. “The app, used by as many as 100 million people in the country, was ordered to be suspended by a state judge who said the company refused to comply with a criminal investigation. According to reports, Brazilian telecom companies received orders at midnight to shut down the voice and messaging service, after the company failed to comply with orders from the judge from July and August. The case is under seal.”
