Large Group Formed to Oppose ICANN’s New gTLD Expansion

Eighty-seven major national and international business associations and companies have joined forces with the ANA (Association of National Advertisers), forming the Coalition for Responsible Internet Domain Oversight (CRIDO) to oppose the rollout of ICANN’s top-level domain expansion program. Members include Grocery Manufacturers Association, the National Association of Manufacturers, the American Society of Association Executives, the National Restaurant Association, the Intellectual Property Owners Association, the American Council of Life Insurers, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the World Federation of Advertisers (WFA). ANA began its vocal opposition to the new TLD expansion earlier this year sending a public letter to ICANN “Vigorously” opposing the plan.

CRIDO.ORG Registered By CooperKatz & Company, Inc. Who's Clients Include ANA and Canon (i.e. .Canon) Ray Marshall  –  Nov 19, 2011 7:31 PM

Did some research on this movement and the ownership behind CRIDO.ORG.  Appears CooperKatz & Company, Inc. (“CooperKatz) registered this domain name.  When reviewing the list of CooperKatz clients, I came across the name of Canon.  In fact, ANA’s logo is just above Canon’s.  How ironic since ANA is trying to prevent .BRANDS and yet Canon has expressed an interest in .CANON.  Curious if CooperKatz is helping Canon to acquire .Canon while supporting ANA’s effort to prevent .BRANDS.  Wouldn’t that be a story.

Dell Inc. Listed Among CRIDO Supporters Yet Owns DOTDELL.COM Ray Marshall  –  Nov 20, 2011 4:40 AM

Thought I’d check out some of the CRIDO supporters.  Seems Dell Inc. decided some time ago to purchase DOTDELL.COM.  Several organizations are acquiring domains such as DOTTOKYO.COM, DOTNYC.NET, DOTBERLIN.COM, etc. to promote their interest in acquiring a new gTLD.  Wonder if Dell purchased DOTDELL.COM in anticipation of acquiring DOT-DELL only to change its mind and join CRIDO.  Too bad.  DOT-DELL would have been cool.
