Tralliance Donation a Watershed Moment for Just a Drop

Tralliance President and CEO Ron Andruff presented a check for $16,162 to Just a Drop today before an audience of international travel and tourism leaders gathered in New York City to commemorate the official launch of the industry's exclusive .travel Internet domain. Fiona Jeffery, Founder and Chairman of Just a Drop, accepted the contribution, the first installment of what is the largest, ongoing funding pledge for Just a Drop in history.

Initially unveiled in November, 2005, at World Travel Market in London, the .travel Registry's bold initiative to donate $1 (U.S.) for every .travel domain name registered has the potential to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars in the coming years. In addition to their own donation, the Registry continues to encourage all entities that hold .travel domain names to match the company's contribution.

"The travel industry as a whole is aware of the importance to 'give back' to the communities in which they operate," said Andruff. "As an integral part of the global travel and tourism community, we want to ensure that vital causes like Just a Drop receive the support they need."

Founded in 1997, Just a Drop is the only global travel and tourism industry charity to give children everywhere the right to life by providing clean water to thousands of children and their families. A registered charity officially regulated by the Charity Commission, Just a Drop raises money to build wells, hand pumps and health and sanitation programs in order to give children and their families access to clean water close to their homes.

Accepting the check on behalf of the charity, Jeffery said that Tralliance and .travel's overwhelming goodwill and generosity will make a significant difference in the lives of thousands.

"Millions of children under the age of five die every year because of the lack of clean water and sanitation. The dollars raised through the Tralliance pledge will help to address the needs of more than 1.1 billion children who have no access to man's basic right – clean water," Jeffery noted.

"Together, .travel and Just a Drop will be able to provide hundreds more protected wells, kilometre upon kilometre of piping, latrines and much more to totally change the lives of communities who right now do not even have the very basics of life," she continued. "Travel entities that join in the .travel initiative will be helping prevent illness and death around the world."

According to Andruff, 16,162 .travel domains have been reserved in the last 16 weeks alone. "We are thrilled with the industry response to .travel and look forward to making an ongoing series of donations to Just a Drop over the next decade as the travel industry continues to embrace its new domain."

Just a Drop is different from other charitable organizations. From small beginnings, the charity has demonstrated that it is not necessary to spend large sums on administration or opulent offices, and that a difference can be made to thousands of peoples' lives by keeping operational costs tight, using a small, devoted team and seeking help from dedicated professionals and advisors whose background and vast experience means they totally understand the problems and challenges out in the field.

Just a Drop's overriding mission is to provide the very basic need for life...clean water.
In a matter of years, Just a Drop has installed protected wells, piping, sanitation and latrines, donated emergency personal toilet packs, water purifying tables and portable water containers as well as paid for sanitation and health education programs in many third world countries worldwide.

Part of the charity's work is to ensure that the community is trained to maintain the equipment and that the women, in particular, understand the reasons why their babies and children could die if they drink dirty, polluted water.

The well-known international explorer Col. John Blashford-Snell, founder of the global youth organisation, Operation Raleigh and the Scientific Exploration Society, is Just a Drop's President. He and his team are responsible for identifying and evaluating suitable projects worldwide, working with the UK's Royal Marines and Royal Engineers as well as a network of other proven and trust worthy professionals such as engineers, builders and medical practitioners living and working in many of the countries that so desperately needs our help.

A panel of officially appointed and vetted Trustees meet regularly to oversee Just a Drop, with recommendations and advice from a number of volunteer groups. A senior executive from Tralliance Corporation has accepted an invitation to be a member of the Trustees. For further information on Just a Drop log on to www.justadrop.org.
