Registrars Urge Rejection of VeriSign's .com Deal

Nineteen internet companies, including Network Solutions, have asked ICANN's Board of Directors to reconsider a controversial agreement giving VeriSign control of the .com top-level domain until 2012.

Domain name registrar GoDaddy has also petitioned the US Department of Commerce, which has yet to approve the agreement, asking that the deal be sent back to the ICANN Board.

In the article, there is a reference to a letter that Warren Adelman, GoDaddy's President, wrote to DoC Secretary Carlos Guitterez.

http://www.godaddy.com/gdshop/pressreleases/DOC.pdf

In that letter, it is stated that ICANN Board member Raimundo Beca voted "no" with respect to the ICANN and VeriSign agreement, and that he was "selected by the Address Supporting Organization".

To the best of my knowledge, Raimundo Beca and Mohamet Diop were appointed to the ICANN Board of Directors after a solicitation of nominations for the appointment, and then by majority vote of the Address Supporting Organization's Address Council. An inference "could" be made from the phrasing of the letter that the Address Supporting Organization agrees with either Directors vote.

This comment should be construed as the individuals only and is not representative of any view of the Address Council or others.

..and a small portion that didnt make it to original post is inserted at the very end:

An inference “could” be made from the phrasing of the letter that the Address Supporting Organization agrees with either Directors vote. It shouldn't."
