Earlier today we heard a presentation from Bavarian representatives talking about their interest in applying for .bayern. They could have been talking about any city, regional, cultural or linguistic grouping.
Like many well known areas around the world, the name of the city or region is a brand in itself. The Bavarians expect that a .bayern TLD will boost the brand value of Bavaria on the Internet, open new opportunities for marketing and help the tourism industry. All pretty common features for any city from London to Paris to Sydney to Sao Paolo.
Most public authorities have run a tender process for the technical service provision - the Bavarian process opened on 15 September.
We wondered whether other German regions will follow suit? And if they do, will they have enough time to get prepared in time for the application process!
