DomainPeople Launches "The .Pro Red Carpet VIP Affair" Domain Reservation Period

Reservations for new .Pro Top Level Domain names to run through August 31, 2008 and firm relaunch date of .Pro TLD set for September 8, 2008

DomainPeople, the eighth official domain name registrar accredited by the Internet Corporation of Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), announced today it will be accepting reservations for .Pro domain names from new registrants through August 31, 2008. The highly-anticipated relaunch date for .Pro has now been confirmed for September 8, 2008.

Dubbed The .Pro Red Carpet VIP Affair, this reservation period enables new customers to reserve their .Pro domain in advance of the formal relaunch on September 8, when the Registry will officially open registration.

While the domain extension .Pro—the domain for professionals—has been available since 2005, there were numerous limitations that made it difficult to obtain and as a result, the adoption rate was nominal. In April of this year, ICANN approved much more favorable terms and conditions for .Pro. This opened up registration opportunities by allowing virtually all professionals worldwide to register .Pro domain names.

While it is necessary for professionals to self-certify their credentials, the process has become much simpler, which means there are thousands of available .Pro names just waiting to be registered. To find out the specific criteria customers will need to self-certify their professional affiliation, refer to DomainPeople's .Pro FAQs.

"DomainPeople is excited to be one of the first registrars to offer .Pro under ICANN's newly expanded registration criteria," stated Liz Yeung, product management specialist for DomainPeople. "And through August 31, we're one of the very few offering the opportunity to reserve a .Pro domain before the relaunch begins."

During "The .Pro Red Carpet VIP Affair," all .Pro domain names can be registered for US $49.95 per year. DomainPeople will also offer all registrants a professional digital certificate that ensures secure online communication via the designated Web site.
