LEGO Enhances Reliability of its Global Web Presence with UltraDNS

World’s Sixth Largest Toy Manufacturer Experiences Significant Reduction in Web Traffic Loss Following Switch to Managed DNS Service

NeuStar today announced that The LEGO Group, a leading toy manufacturer headquartered in Denmark, has chosen NeuStar’s UltraDNS Managed DNS Service to enhance the reliability of The LEGO Group’s web-based operations, including a significant global e-commerce presence.

The LEGO Group was founded in 1932 and has evolved over the past 75 years from a small carpenter’s workshop to a global enterprise that is now, in terms of sales, the world’s sixth-largest manufacturer of toys. In recent years, The LEGO Group has increasingly utilized the Internet to inform, entertain, and sell its products to children in 130 countries around the world. Consequently, enhancing the reliability of the DNS infrastructure that supports The LEGO Group’s web-based operations is essential.

“We strive to give our customers the best possible experience through our online services, and are constantly looking for improvements,” said Søren A. Brandbyge, application engineer at The LEGO Group. “NeuStar’s UltraDNS Managed DNS Service is extremely stable. Since we migrated to the service, we have in general experienced a lowering of DNS lookup time as well as a significant reduction in the number of dropped DNS requests, which are down nearly 60 percent in Europe and over 90 percent in North America. This translates into several thousands of customers each day having an even better experience. We look forward to the service contributing to our growth strategy in Asia Pacific as NeuStar continues to enhance its global infrastructure.”

The UltraDNS Managed DNS Service is built on NeuStar’s Directory Services Platform. The platform is a fault-tolerant global infrastructure with 14 nodes (DNS Server constellations) across five continents. Utilizing advanced routing technology, DNS requests are directed to and answered by the topologically closest node, which significantly reduces the distance DNS requests and responses have to travel across the Internet - thus minimizing Web traffic loss. The continued deployment of NeuStar’s DNS Shield™, a revolutionary extension of the UltraDNS infrastructure, further enhances reliability. The DNS Shield involves the deployment of authoritative DNS servers within the networks of leading ISPs; once the ISP receives a DNS request from an end user, it is responded to immediately and need not travel further across the Internet.

“We are proud to report that The LEGO Group, like many of our customers, has experienced a quantitative and immediate improvement in DNS reliability after migrating to the UltraDNS Managed Service,” said Alex Berry, senior vice president and general manager of NeuStar’s Internet Infrastructure Services Group. “NeuStar’s technology and services deliver immediate, positive impact on web-enabled businesses of every size and industry classification, and continue to set new performance standards for Internet operations globally.”
