.Press Domain Names - The Changing Face of Journalism

Radix, Asia’s largest new generic Top Level Domain (gTLD) Registry, has launched the .press gTLD for the global journalism, PR, media and publishing community. A gTLD is the part of your web address that follows the dot, like .com. Radix has been chosen by ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) for operational management of 4 gTLDs including .press.

Journalism is undergoing a digital revolution. The face of journalism has altered with newspaper corporations like New York Times rallying on their digital revenues to increase profitability. Almost 75% of journalists in the world have joined the internet revolution of news and information. Websites like Huffington Post and Mashable have 2.9 and 2.5 million followers respectively on Facebook. Popular journalists like Anderson Cooper have 4.6 million followers on Twitter.

In recognition of these factors, Radix came up with the .press extension. “.press is the ultimate stamp of internet journalism”, says Sandeep Ramchandani, Business Head at Radix. “Web addresses like www.mybrand.press and www.myagency.press will enable journalists, news corporations, publishers, PR agencies, bloggers and indeed any organization to give its journalistic and publishing work the identity it deserves on the internet. In fact, .press is a versatile extension yielding itself to a variety of adaptations beyond the obvious.”

.press domains will be available starting 24th June, 2014. The first 60-day Sunrise phase is an application period during which trademark holders may register their brand.press names. The Landrush phase will follow starting 26th August, 2014 where anyone can register short and generic domain names by paying a small premium. .press hits general availability on September 17th after which domains become available to everyone on a first-come and first-serve basis.

Radix has also launched a Pioneer Program for those who want to be early adopters of this significant change to their industry. The Pioneer Program will award industry stalwarts their own .press web addresses free of cost for the first year—enabling them to take their brand to the next level by leveraging this unique marketing opportunity. By giving them the first .press domain names well before general public access, the Pioneer Program facilitates these Pioneers in solidifying their position as leaders in the digital media industry.

This is an exclusive offer for industry leaders and Radix is currently inviting applications for Pioneers at: http://dotpressdomains.com/pioneer-program/
