Tom Espiner reporting in ZDNet UK: "Governments should formulate a doctrine to stave off cyberattacks similar to the Cold War-era principle of nuclear deterrence, according to former US Department of Homeland Security secretary Michael Chertoff. 'Rules of the road' for dealing with cyberattacks should include agreed principles on how to react to sustained cyberattacks on critical national infrastructure, Chertoff told a press conference at RSA Conference Europe on Thursday." More...

Earlier this month, I had the opportunity to attend the The Emerging Communications (eComm) 2009 conference in San Francisco which was packed with 3 days of fascinating conversations about the future of communications. I absolutely enjoyed talking to various speakers and attendees giving me a deep level of appreciation and perspective on technical, commercial and political issues at hand -- and what is likely to come in the next few years. And speaking of politics, Lee Dryburgh, who founded eComm in early 2008, has generously allowed us to share with you a fascinating panel discussion which took place on day 3 of the conference called "Spectrum 2.0 - What's really happening?" More...

OneWebDay: More Important Than Ever (Featured Blog)

I first heard about OneWebDay in the summer of 2006, when Susan Crawford, whom I have the utmost respect for, talked to me about the importance of having an equivalent of Earth Day for the Internet. Her explanation of the project made absolute sense to me then -- and even more so today. And I couldn't think of a better and more passionate person to be leading this mission. Next month OneWebDay will be celebrated for the third time around the world and the level of participation is phenomenal! More...

In a recent press release, Alan Harper says: "The aim of the initiative is to accelerate the rollout of Internet products and services specifically designed for mobile devices as well as to ensure far greater operating simplicity for mobile subscribers across the globe. This venture should build on the considerable trust that exists in the mobile community between subscribers and operators." What is this initiative you ask? A new wireless protocol? A new wireless association? Not exactly! More...
