MarkMonitor Executive to Moderate Panel on New gTLDs at ICANN Singapore Meeting

MarkMonitor®, the global leader in enterprise brand protection, today announced that on June 23 Frederick Felman, CMO of MarkMonitor, will moderate a panel focused on the expansion of generic top level domains (gTLDs) at the upcoming Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) meeting in Singapore. Felman will also give a presentation about gTLDs, or 'dot brands', on June 29 at the American Apparel & Footwear Association (AAFA) Brand Protection Council Meeting in New York. The new domain system has the potential to change the way the world knows Internet addresses and represents a great opportunity for companies to extend their brands while presenting new challenges for brands.

ICANN is a multi-stakeholder non-profit organization dedicated to coordinating the Internet's addressing system and Felman has worked closely with leading brands and the organization in the development of the new gTLD system. The ICANN meeting panel will explore the structure of the new system and explain how it is expected to work, who should register a .brand, how companies can use the system to their advantage and its potential risks.

The Brand Protection Council (BPC) was created by the AAFA to provide a forum for its members to discuss Intellectual Property protection and strategies. At his BPC presentation in New York, Felman will focus on how the new domain system will change the domain name hierarchy and impact brands.
