Neustar, Inc. announced today that its registry team has completed deployment of DNSSEC in the .US zone and is ready to accept Delegation Signer (DS) records. The .BIZ zone will follow quickly, accepting records as early as August 1, 2010, making it the second gTLD to be fully DNSSEC-enabled. DNSSEC technology uses public key cryptography and digital signatures to protect the Domain Name System (DNS) from cache poisoning attacks. A poisoned cache redirects users to a fraudulent site where their personal and/or financial information may be compromised. The complex undertaking of DNSSEC deployments in .US and .BIZ are an affirmation of Neustar's continued commitment to a secure Internet. The registry team has been involved in the development of DNSSEC standards with the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) since the vulnerability was first identified. When the implementation for the .US zone was approved by the Department of Commerce last year, Neustar adopted a strategic approach to the implementation, first testing both the changes to the environment and the key rollover process within the .US zone.

"We are invested in the constant evolution of a secure, robust Internet experience," said Rodney Joffe, senior vice president and senior technologist at Neustar. "As new opportunities present themselves, Neustar responds in a methodical, but timely, manner with industry participation as well as new service offerings, such as DNSSEC."

"With the ICANN mandate that new gTLDs be DNSSEC-enabled, the full DNSSEC deployment of the .BIZ and .US zones positions Neustar as a proven partner and industry leader in Internet security," said Tim Switzer, vice president of Domain Name Registry Services at Neustar. "Interested parties seeking a trusted partner with deep technical, operational, and marketing expertise are encouraged to contact Ken Hansen, Neustar Registry Services' senior director of business development, at newgtld@neustar.biz."
