New TLD Update

Here’s a chart showing the ten largest new TLDs and the number of domains in each one, going back five days. It’s updated every day around 3 AM New York time, so visit early and often.

Data from downloaded TLD zone files. Some new TLDs don’t have zone files available yet but I don’t think any of them are very big.

I also love these stats—have been watching them with a little bit of “crowd wisdom” fanaticism. ;)

All of a sudden I feel like .Berlin has disappeared—is that perhaps a glitch or something like that?

Again: Thanks for posting this in the first place—perhaps at some time it may be useful to go beyond the top 10 (but at the moment my gut feeling is that ALL of the so-called “new generic” TLDs together do not even have as many registrations as .INFO or .BIZ have alone).

Something is screwed up at ICANN’s CZDS system, which turned off access to about half of the new zones. It looks to me like a software bug, but I won’t know until they get back to me.

The numbers the graph show appear to be correct for the zones I can still see.

To John’s point, I suspect the issue is a glitch with the CZDS system. Other sites such as http://ntldstats.com/ are still showing a high number of .berlin registrations. It could be either that that site still has full CZDS access or it could be that they are extrapolating from past data to ride out whatever temporary issues are going on.

On your other point, that site says that as of today there are 754,212 registrations across all newgTLDs, which does indeed put it well below the .INFO or .BIZ registrations as seen on http://www.registrarstats.com/TLDDomainCounts.aspx
