MarkMonitor, world leader in enterprise brand protection and a part of the IP and Science business of Thomson Reuters, announces Elisa Cooper, vice president of Product Marketing, has been elected chair of the ICANN Business Constituency, serving a third consecutive term.
The Business Constituency (BC) represents the voice of commercial Internet users within ICANN, the Internet Corporation of Assigned Names and Numbers. The mission of the BC is to ensure that ICANN policy positions are consistent with the development of an Internet that promotes confidence because it is a safe place to conduct business, is competitive in the supply of registry and registrar and related services, and is stable, secure and reliable.
In the coming year, multiple items of particular importance to businesses will be under discussion at ICANN as the IANA functions are transitioned, new ICANN accountability mechanisms are defined, and a series of new gTLD reviews are initiated.
"I am honored to be selected to lead the Business Constituency and represent the interests of businesses of all sizes to ICANN," said Elisa. "As we navigate the changing Internet landscape, we will do our best to ensure the voices of businesses are heard and focus on keeping the Internet a safe place for companies and their customers."
MarkMonitor has a long-standing history of active participation within ICANN over the last 10 years. This has provided the opportunity to not only thoroughly understand changes to the DNS and its impact on large corporations, but it has provided the ability to advocate for the rights of all brand owners.
