About

I worked for the UK Government in 2008-19 as a senior policy maker on Internet governance in the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (the UK’s ministry leading on ICT policy). In that capacity I represented the UK at conferences and meetings of UN and its committees and agencies relating to Internet governance issues. I was the lead official in the UK delegation at the G7 on digital policy in 2016-17. I also represented the UK on the Council of Europe’s Steering Committee on Media and the Information Society (CDMSI) and ICANN’s Governmental Advisory Committee (GAC). I was a member of the IGF’s Multi-stakeholder Advisory Group (MAG) in 2014-16.
Since leaving the UK Government service in March 2019, as an independent analyst on Internet governance I have assisted the European regional IGF “EuroDIG” in its stakeholder consultations on the report of the UN Secretary-General’s High Level Panel on Digital Cooperation. I also contributed to the analysis of the IGF’s NRI Task Force consultations on this report. I am currently working with Wout de Natris in establishing a new IGF Dynamic Coalition on Internet Standards, Security and Safety (DC-ISSS) which will be launched at IGF 2020. On 1 September 2020 I joined the institutional relations team of the Internet Society (ISOC) working with Constance Bommelaer.
